The LCU Fund for Women's Education Seeks Leadership Sponsors

The LCU Fund will celebrate 160 years of supporting the aspirations of outstanding women on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Through financial panics, depressions, recessions and wars, the LCU Fund has provided access to safe, affordable housing to women pursuing self-sufficiency through work and education in New York City.

Since launching our housing grant program in 2001, the LCU has awarded over $11M in support to 2,200 women, enabling them to focus on their studies and obtain degrees in fields that give back to society. The benefits of a college degree are clear. Female college graduates are more likely to be employed and earn a good living, lessening economic vulnerability. Many overlook the other costs associated with attending college besides tuition. Even when grants or academic scholarships cover tuition, the burdensome cost of New York City housing often forces lower – and even middle – income students to shy away from higher education. A housing grant from the LCU Fund can make all the difference.

Our 160-year birthday celebration will take place from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and will feature notable speakers, artwork by LCU Fund-supported student artists, and the presentation of the President’s Award for Excellence in Leadership to a grant recipient who has demonstrated exceptional leadership within her school or home community.
